Year 1- Kandinsky Class
Curriculum Overview
Curriculum |
For our Curriculum project this term our focus is Technology and we will be answering the question ‘Which structure is significant to our local area and why?’ We will be looking at how Banbury Market has changed over time, using geography and history to understand Banbury and art and design to help us create our very own market stall. To help with our project we would like to ask for a voluntary contribution of £2 (made via parent pay) per child to help us fund our exciting project. Your donations will be used to buy resources for our Curriculum project. |
Maths |
Our Maths this term will be focusing on the composition of numbers up to 10. The children will begin by exploring how numbers up to 5 can be partitioned (split into parts), using the part-whole model and bar model to represent this. They will continue then to look at numbers 6-10 considering how these numbers are made up of 5 and a bit more. To develop this further the children will investigate how these numbers are ordered on the number line and begin to consider odd and even numbers and count in twos. The final unit for this term will be focused on geometry and in particular the properties of shape. |
English |
This term’s first English unit will be based on the story The Storm Whale by Benji Davies. The children will learn about using adjectives (‘what like’) words to describe a noun. They will use this knowledge as well as continuing to develop their skills in composing and writing simple sentences as a group of paragraphs to produce a description of some of the settings in the story. We will continue to focus on the correct use of capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our sentences. The second English unit this term will be a recount linked to our Curriculum project. |
Computing |
In computing this term, the children will continue to use the chrome books or laptops to log in to the paintz app. They will develop their skills of using the mouse/touchpad and the range of tools in this app to create some pieces of artwork. The artwork will be inspired by artists such as Kandinsky, Matisse and Mondrian where they used different shapes to create their art. The children will create their own digital artwork and compare this to using real paint. |
HRE |
The first unit in HRE this term will concentrate on the topic of ‘Ourselves, Growing and Changing’. The children will consider what makes them unique and what is the same or different compared to others. They will also discuss strategies they can use to help themselves if they find something challenging. The second unit focuses on the subject ‘Safeguarding Ourselves’. The children will learn about ways that they can stay safe in different environments such as near roads, in public areas or at home. They will also begin to learn about being safe online and when using online games or watching certain media. |
