STEAM Showcase!!

Reception

Thank you all so much for coming to our Easter hat display and our Steam showcase, it is really special for the children to have you here and to be able to show you the work they have been producing this term. We hope you enjoyed it. If you didn't make it you can see pictures from this term's Steam project on Sway.

Year 1

This term, we have focussed on expressive art and design. The children learned about a range of common plants and trees and where they can be found. We looked at the key features of some of the plants and what a plant needs. We became historians and researched the work of both Beatrix Potter and Vincent Van Gogh. We were inspired by their artwork and it influenced our own pieces. Thank you to the families who joined us for our showcase, it was lovely to share all of the children's hard work with you all!

Year 2

Our STEAM challenge has been to create a piece of art using the artists techniques of Roy Lichenstein and Andy Warhol. We identified features of Pop Art and recreated symmetrical image based on famous Pop Art pieces. We then created a design reflecting about what was important to us, what we enjoyed at home or at school. Using different mediums and mark making we created our pieces. After evaluating our Art work, we improved our final pieces by either using dots to add more detail or block colour to make the work brighter. We then used relief printing to create borders to make our Art pieces stand out.

Year 3

It was very exciting to finally welcome parents and carers into Valentina Class after such a long time. The children loved sharing all the amazing learning they have been working on for the past term. Our showcase included the Tudor family tree, which the children very confidently spoke about with their parents. Valentina Class produced their own gallery of portraits using the fantastic art skills they have learned, such as mixing skin tones, shading and facial proportions.

Year 4

This term the children have been learning all about the Vikings and Anglo Saxons. They have researched Viking purses and adapted their own designs to suit themselves - making them more colourful and practical.  The children have practiced and improved their sewing skills and have shown great perseverance and resilience during this process.  They then evaluated their peers and their own purses and discussed what they were proud of, what challenges they faced and what they would do differently next time. They have shown incredible team spirit, helping each other out with challenges and should all be proud of what they have created!

Year 5

It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers join us on Thursday afternoon to hear all about our learning from this term. DaVinci Class have been looking at the Ancient Greek civilization this term and the children thoroughly enjoyed putting together their own presentations to summarise what they felt were the key lessons in the topic. We were able to show off our final finished pots which were inspired by Ancient Greek artefacts and depict an important part of Ancient Greek life. We also enjoyed sharing a little bit of Greek food!

Year 6

This week we really enjoyed sharing our fantastic Islamic art with visiting family members who came to see us at the STEAM showcase. We have put so many hours of work into developing the skills to produce these art pieces and we hope you really enjoyed coming to see our progress. Thank you.
